Nigerian Dwarf Goat Breed
The Nigerian dwarf is a miniature dairy goat of West African origin, popular for its small size, colorful markings, and dairy characteristics.
Advantages
The Nigerian Dwarf's small size means they require less space and feed, making them ideal for small farms or homesteads. They have gentle and friendly personalities, higher butterfat milk, and are easy to handle, even for small children.
Rarity
The Nigerian Dwarf is considered rare by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy but is approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a livestock dairy goat, making them eligible for youth 4H and FFA projects.
Milk Production
A healthy Nigerian Dwarf doe can produce up to two quarts of milk per day or more, with milk higher in protein than most dairy goat breeds, perfect for cheese-making, soap-making, or enjoying fresh.
Purpose of Raising
Many owners raise Nigerian Dwarfs for milk production or pleasure and companionship, providing a unique and rewarding experience for their owners.
